Cape Trauma Specialists

 

The Gene E. Huckstep Emergency Center is the region's only Level III Trauma Center serving as a resource for five states and nearly 650,000 people. It is staffed by hospital-based, board certified emergency medicine physicians. Saint Francis' trauma designation means all systems within the Medical Center are equipped to assess and address any serious trauma at any moment. The trauma designation requires close cooperation with EMS professionals, surgeons, physicians and the entire Medical Center staff.

 

  • Emergency and trauma services provides care for more than 33,000 patients each year.
  • In 2007, Trauma Services cared for 1,807 trauma patients, with 626 patients requiring surgical involvement.
  • The Emergency and Trauma Center has a dedicated Chest Paint Center for immediate response to patients having a heart attack.
  • Approximately 80 percent of patients seen by Emergency Services are treated and discharged in less than 4 hours.
  • The Emergency Services nursing staff shares an aggregate experience level of more than 200 years of service in nursing.
  • Saint Francis collaborates with a flight rescue service available to respond to life-threatening calls involving serious injuries or medical conditions throughout Southeast Missouri.
