“Mary, did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water? Mary, did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?”
Did you know that St. Francis of Assisi staged the very first Nativity scene in 1223? After visiting the actual birthplace of Jesus in Bethlehem, he returned home to Greccio, Italy and requested permission from Pope Honorius III to recreate the scene so that more could understand how it all began.
Saint Francis Healthcare System will recreate the scene of Jesus’ birth with its first outdoor Live Nativity. Come and experience the true reason for the season on Friday, December 20 and Saturday, December 21 from 5:30-8 pm on both nights. Invite your neighbors, friends and family to follow the Star of Bethlehem to the Saint Francis Cancer Institute (Entrance 6 – view map) and witness this truly special event.
“St. Francis is our namesake and he created the very first Nativity scene!” said Jimmy Wilferth, Vice President of Marketing and Foundation at Saint Francis Healthcare System. “That is so special and we are honored to follow in his footsteps by providing this visual reminder for our community. Jesus is the reason we do what we do at Saint Francis. That’s what drives us – He’s the WHY behind everything we do and the reason we celebrate Christmas.”
Healthcare System colleagues, board members and volunteers will take on the roles of Mary, Joseph, wise men, shepherds and angels. The event will feature live animals including cows, camels, four-horn sheep and of course a donkey.
Parking is available near the Cancer Institute. In case of inclement weather, event status updates can be seen on this site or Saint Francis Healthcare System Facebook page.
